Ready for Argentina yet?! I certainly am ready to continue this trip with you guys! I know it seems to take forever to get through my trips, but so much happens and it would be wayyyyy too much for just a post or two. I hope you guys don’t mind 🙂 We left off with the Burquebus Ferry back to Argentina. Since we had 5 days in this city, we decided it would be more cost effective to rent an entire apartment. That way, we could buy groceries and cook some of our meals. Unlike here in the states, complimentary breakfast in hotels here is not the norm.
We met our host to pick up the keys for our studio apartment in Recoleta. They were seriously the coolest keys I had ever had. I wish I could have kept them. At first, I thought it was just her apartment, but NO! Over the next several days it became apparent that these types of keys were common in the city as I saw many people carrying them around. Look how cool!
The nice thing about this city is that there is so much to do both inside and outside. So it really doesn’t matter what the weather is doing (although obviously its nicer when it is bright and sunny!). In this post I’ll talk about some of the indoor things we did and in the next post I’ll wrap up the trip with some of the outdoor things/and food things we did.
There are many museums in the city and many of them are also free to explore, particularly on certain days of the week. If you plan on exploring this city, I recommend you scout out ahead of time to see what museums are open on what days and what day are free entry days if that is something you look for.
One of the museums we went to the was Fine Arts Museum. I thought this was was really neat, as it housed a wide variety of art and mediums. The above is one of the coolest paintings I saw there. Below is a beautiful wall carving/sculpture. The picture does not do the size justice as it was a huge piece of art that was carved into 3 stone slabs.
Aside from your typical museums, they also have some of the old houses that have been converted to museums, such as the Museo De Arte Decorativo in Palermo. This house was in the French Baroque style (which I just LOVE). This room was all mirrored, white and gold. I just fell in love with this room and thought it was so beautiful. I wish I could have done it better justice with the picture.
Finally, another cool spot is the El Ateneo. It’s claim to fame is that is the world’s second prettiest bookstore. It has several levels and even has an escalator! It’s sections are well marked and it can be easy to spend a good chunk of time inside. Even if you are not a book reader (they also have music and movies), I recommend just checking it out for the view from the top level. It really is very pretty. It can be tricky to spot from the street, so pay close attention when you are walking to find it.
These are some of the things that kept us occupied during our time in Buenos Aires. I’ll wrap up the trip next week with some of the other things we did (and people we met). Stay tuned! In the meantime, I recommend you try out this super simple coconut chocolate covered strawberry protein smoothie.
Coconut Chocolate Covered Protein Smoothie [Low Carb, Clean, Vegan, Glutenfree]
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 T psyllium husk powder
- ~1-2 cups ice to thickness
Instructions
-
I recommend covering the bottom of your blender with some of the coconut milk, followed by your strawberries, psyllium husk powder, protein powder and then followed by the rest of the milk and then ice.
-
If you want your smoothie to be more of a soft serve consistency to eat with a spoon add more towards the 2 cups of ice. If you want it to be more drinkable, add only a small amount of ice or no ice.

Eat and enjoy!!
